pcSuper Scanner Description
It’s almost impossible to create a perfect security system for your computer, but at least you can try it. That’s the purpose of pcSuper Scanner too: it scans your system and provides information on the open ports, thus letting you know whether the system is vulnerable or not. Although this lightweight software solution isn’t quite aimed at rookies, it’s almost impossible to get lost in its GUI because everything was designed to be as user-friendly as possible. In fact, users have nothing else to do than to press the “Start” button, which instantly starts the scanning engine and shows information on the open ports. The GUI’s layout is divided into multiple panels supposed to display details on TCP server ports, TCP client ports and UDP ports, while a different box at the bottom of the window shows the number of scanned and open ports. The scanning process doesn’t take much time and the application needs a moderate amount of resources to complete the task, so it could slow down older workstations a little bit. While it shows each open port on your computer, pcSuper Scanner doesn’t allow you to export the presented data, so you can’t save port details to TXT for later analyzing. It does scan all 65535 communication ports on every computer, but you can’t do anything else with the results but read them once and then lose them completely. All things considered, pcSuper Scanner is a good start for a more advanced project, but it’s pretty obvious that a lot more features are needed to become a top product. A help manual is missing completely and the program seems to stress up the system a bit too much. Reviewed by Bogdan Popa, last updated on May 14th, 2012
