SHP Viewer is a tiny and portable application with one simple goal - to display the content of ESRI Shape files, namely the ones with SHP format. It does not include any kind of options or configuration settings, so it can be used even by those with no kind of experience in software apps. Since there is no setup pack involved, you can drop the executable file in any location on the hard drive and just click it to run. There is also the possibility of saving a copy of SHP Viewer to a USB flash disk or other similar device, to be able to run it on any computer with minimum effort and without prior installers. An important aspect to keep in mind is that the Windows registry does not get updated with new entries (as it usually happens with installers), and no extra files are added to the hard disk, leaving no traces behind after program removal. The app's GUI is made from a single window with a plain and uncomplicated layout, where you can open an SHP item using the file browser only, since the drag-and-drop method is not featured. It is possible to use the mouse cursor to pan, as well as the scroll wheel to zoom in and out of the drawing. There are no other notable features provided by this software utility. SHP Viewer has a good response time and minimal impact on system performance, since it runs on a light quantity of CPU and RAM. We have not come across any issues in our testing, as the app did not hang, crash or display error messages.
