Protein Tracer Description

Besides enabling the fully automated recognition of cells and protein locations in batches of fluorescence microscope images, Protein Tracer provides powerful tools for the visual analysis of the resulting data. A particular strength of the Protein Tracer software suite is its ability to trace protein translocations on a single-cell basis, that is, without averaging over the whole population. This greatly improves the accuracy of measurements and facilitates the revelation of individual behaviors. The Protein Tracer software suite is designed as a general framework for image cytometry, with generic functionality for the automated measurement and visual analysis of cell properties in images. Therefore, it is easily extensible with special image processing algorithms and analysis methods. In its current form, however, the Protein Tracer software suite is optimized for tracing the activation of signaling proteins in circular insect cells, on the supposition that the proteins are either smoothly distributed throughout the cytoplasm or bound to the plasma membrane.
