Though maintained by the International Voice Association (IVA), DSS is not a popular audio format and many applications and devices can’t handle this type of audio files. Not even the ubiquitous Windows Media Player can load and play DSS files. Because of this issue, the DSS to Wave Converter application has been created. DSS to Wave Converter allows converting DSS files to the industry-standard WAV (Wave) audio format which is widely supported by almost any audio playing devices and applications. DSS to Wave Converter is extremely simple. Other than selecting the DSS files, choosing the output folder, and providing a password when needed, there are no other options, functions, or features. This application doesn’t allow customizing its interface, tweaking additional parameters for the output WAV files, or converting to other formats besides WAV. Considering its lack of additional features I would’ve expected this tool to be free, but that’s not the case. Using DSS to Wave Converter for free can be done only for a 30-day trial period. To sum it all up, if you need a quick and extremely simple tool to convert DSS speech files to WAV, then this one is a good choice. It’s annoyingly minimalistic, but it gets its job done.
