leafLoops Description

The leafLoops application was designed to be a very simple MIDI pattern sequencer that allows you to make small “loops” - patterns containing several bars worth of MIDI notes which are played back repeatedly. One of the more advanced features of leafLoops allows you to trigger (“cue”) these patterns by pressing keys on your MIDI instrument. So if you store several patterns in a file, you can switch between them easily. You can use this to make it easier to play live or semi-live with analogue synthesisers and the like; the computer MIDI interface plays back the notes constantly at the right tempo, while you adjust the controls on the instrument to change the sound, and you can switch patterns quickly as the music demands. leafLoops is also useful as a simple MIDI sequencer. You can use leafLoops, in combination with manual, live adjustment to your synthesisers and effects units, to create source material which you’ll be finally arranging in digital music creation programs - for example, leafLoops is ideal for making sounds you could record as fragments in leafBreaks. Because leafLoops has a simple interface, uncluttered with complex features, you can program music more simply than in a full sequencer program; the extra power of a “real” sequencer is unnecessary when you’re arranging the final results in a different program. There are no recording facilities in leafLoops. So you can’t play notes into it using your MIDI keyboard - instead, you program them in using the mouse. This is because it’s designed for use with short, tightly-timed loops rather than long solos. NOTE: See Registration details within the help file
