Universal SQL Editor Description
Connect to various SQL-enabled servers and search them, apply filters or group the results of your queries. Additional features include code autocompletion, syntax highlighting and parameters hinting. There are SO MANY SQL editors...some with more features, some with less. This time I had the chance to test another one from Ming Software. The name sounds attractive: "Universal SQL Editor". In general terms, it is a good program, very simple, with a clear and understandable interface. It takes a few moments to get familiar with all the options, the best way to do it is to roll the mouse pointer over the toolbar buttons and read the function description in the status bar, on the bottom of the screen. Before saying anything else, I have to clarify something: this is not just an editor for SQL files: the program has a built-in feature called "Database Explorer". But unfortunately this feature does not include the options for database/table management or design. Instead, you can use the Database Explorer to "navigate" through a data source (any database, text file or excel spreadsheet, thanks to ODBC), checking the columns structure and data types, indexes and more. The SQL editor has some cool options like autocomplete of SQL syntax, and the ability to drag and drop column names from the query results to group them. That is really useful! Overall, there is a question: Is this the ultimate SQL editor? Well, the program is fine, but very limited. However, it is always good to give it a try: maybe some users will still find this program useful to them. MartÃn Palacio Pentucci Editor rating:
