Ubiquitous Player Description

By default, your operating system provides you with the basic tools for navigating through your hard disk drive, listening to music, writing text and so one. However, there are countless applications that provide more features, being dedicated to a single purpose. Ubiquitous Player is one of them and wants to combine all of them in an ingeniously designed interface.Lightweight and easy deploymentOne of the main advantages is that it requires no installation. Adding that it takes considerably little space you can easily keep it on a removable storage device. Moreover, it uses a decent amount of your system's resources, thus being available to a large variety of configurations. The main window is mostly what you want it to be. The only element that is constantly available is a toolbar that provides quick access to all features. Requiring a little getting used toOverall, the design sets itself apart from other conventional applications, but it has one major disadvantage. Even though most buttons are intuitive, there is no tooltip to show you what exactly each function does, leaving you lost until you get acquainted with everything thrown at you. Explore available storage devicesA basic feature is that you can easily explore disk drives connected to your computer. However, there are not many functions that can be performed, the available ones not being even half of what the explorer context menu offers. Various leisure and work related toolsIn addition, you can take advantage of a music player, text editor, image viewer, gallery, notes, bookmarks, calculator and a clipboard. Clicking on either of them brings up a dedicated window, which is replaced if another one is opened, but keeping your settings intact. Several screen capturing methodsMoreover, you can capture screen activity using multiple methods, such as a region or an active window and save the newly acquired image to various formats. These can easily be viewed with an integrated tool and have a few effects applied. Slightly difficult to move aroundAnother disadvantage or poorly designed feature is resizing the main window. Again, unlike standard methods, you can only make use of options to increase or decrease size, with not much variety, at a certain level being impossible to move the window around. To end withAll in all, Ubiquitous Player resembles something of a mini operating system, coming equipped with various multimedia, leisure, as well as work related tools. However, the overall design and lack of helpful info can make many users look away because it takes some time and patience to get accommodated. Even though it needs some work done, it's still worth a try. Reviewed by Mircea Dragomir, last updated on January 8th, 2015
