Here is the official description for SmallMP3: SmallMP3 is a MacOSX app to trim a sequence of audio files and convert them to MP3. I wrote it to make it easier to edit radio programmes recorded from digital TV or DAB radio so that I could play them on my iPod. Audio from DVB or DAB is in MP2 format. iTunes can play this, but my iPod shuffle and Archos AV420 cannot. So I want to cut the stuff before and after the program, and then convert it to MP3 at a suitable bit rate for Spoken Word (say, 64k). I did this in iTunes for a while, but I found the process a little tedious, and I wasn’t convinced the conversion quality at low bit rates was very good. SmallMP3 is an Applescript front-end that uses QuickTime, Mp3Splt and lame to play, trim and convert the file.
