Refresh Reports to View Current Data from Your Live Database The Report Viewer allows users to easily refresh current data from their database. The Crystal Reports viewer from Business Objects only allows you to open reports with saved data, but this software allows you to dynamically refresh the content of your reports. When you open a report, it will show any data that is saved in the report. Then you can use the refresh button to view the report with fresh data. If your computer is configured to access the data source, the Report Viewer application requires no setup to view reports and refresh current data from your databases. View Multiple Crystal Reports RPT Files at Once with Tabbed Reporting With tabbed reporting, the Report Viewer allows users to view and refresh multiple reports at the same time (popup screenshot). When you open more than one report, you will see that each new report gets opened in a separate tab. You can also open the same report more than once, accessing different databases or using different report parameters. Giving users the ability to view the same report with different selection formulas applied to it improves productivity. While viewing one report, you will notice that your other reports are available in the report list tab, and in the drop down combo box on this tool bar. This gives your users quick way to open other reports, while viewing one. Easy Management of Your Crystal Reports The report viewers interface allows quick access to all of your Crystal Reports. Keep your Crystal Reports organized with the Report Viewer for Crystal Reports easy to use interface. Each report will run in a different tab, so you will be able to open and view as many reports as you like, all at the same time. There are two different interfaces available. Pictured is the tree view, which allows you to create directories and add reports to the directories for quick access. The other interface is a list view. It allows you to view all of your reports by title and sort them by other file attributes. The user can quickly change between the two interfaces. You can add the reports to the list in two different ways. You can scan a directory for reports and you can add the report files one at a time. You can also clear the list all at once, or remove reports from the list, one at a time. To open a selected report, you can double click on the report you would like to view, choose the View Report button, or choose the View Formula button. You can also use the combo box at the top of the report viewer to select a report you would like to view, while you have another tab open. Their are two buttons next to the combo box. One is to view reports, and the other is to view the formula before opening the report. Edit the Selection Formulas in Your Crystal Reports at Runtime You may edit selection formulas and apply them to your reports (popup screenshot). The formula editor interface will load all the available report fields from your database, making the formulas easy to write and edit. The selection formula that is embedded in the report will be loaded. You may use it or modify it. The selection criteria is then applied to your report before it is displayed. A useful example would be setting the sales person number equal to the sales person you would like to run the report for, while running your sales report. This makes your report viewing task easier and more dynamic. Show SQL Once a report is opened, you will see a command button that will allow you to display the SQL commands that are embedded in, and used by, the report to fetch the data. Being able to view the SQL command embedded in the report gives advanced users the ability to further analyze and verify the data used in the report. However, you may also easily override that setting, with a username, password or passphrase, server, database, and checking if SSL is required. You may use the settings that are embedded in the report, by checking the box that says "use report settings." This allows you to connect to other data sources than ODBC. For instance, some reports may have XML or Oracle data bases, which they draw information from. Other reports may connect to multiple sources at once. In these cases, set Report Viewer to use the setting specified and embedded in the report. You may also choose the ODBC connection you would like to use as a data source for the report. When you create a connection, you have to specify a nickname for the connection. This allows you to easily change between connections.
