Performance Viewer Description

The Performance Viewer for Oracle Databases version 10g and 11g (pviewer) is a Java based executable dialog program for viewing/ displaying Oracle performance data, that are collected and stored by Oracle Statspack. Pviewer generates a modern styled HTML report, which is more easier to read and to understand, than the Statspack report from Oracle produced by Statspack spreport.sql. Furthermore the pviewer (in opposite to the original Statspack report from Oracle) contains the complete SQL text, the graphical explain plan for the high impact SQLs, interpretation hints as well as recommendations and also unshortened and easy copyable result values. Why pviewer? Statspack generates with the script spreport.sql a report text file using performance data stored in the Statspack repository. This is partially done with line breaks inside of the report parts, incomplete SQL text and incomplete other values. Unfortunately sometimes you may see ####### for values, which are too large for the specific Statspack report field--but therefore even very important. Pviewer always displays the complete values and reports as well as the complete SQL text. Pviewer generates a modern style HTML report similar to the AWR report, which is easier to read and to understand as the Original Statspack report produced by Statspack spreport.sql. Pviewer is a Java Windows client dialog program and therefore much easier to handle and to use, than the original Statspack report generation. In general pviewer contains more data from the Statspack tables - that means more columns and more rows. Pviewer contains a new important statistic with the Top SQL's ordered by high impact additionally: Top n SQLs (configured with TOP_SQL_HIGH variable) using stats$sql_summary, STATS$SQLTEXT (v$sql, v$SQLTEXT as basis tables) ordered by high impact (BUFFER GETS, CPU TIME and ELAPSED TIME) desc. And for each high impact SQL there is a lot of information available - and the Graphical execution plan in epviewer format is displayed. For the advantages of the Graphical execution plan in epviewer format see Readme_epviewer. Furthermore the pviewer (in opposite to the original Statspack report from Oracle) contains interpretation hints as well as recommendations and also unshortened and easy copyable result values.
