PQ Node Addon Description

PQ is a search engine with substantial differences: it is distributed and collaborative. The search engine load is distributed among the members of the community. Crawling, indexing and searching is carried out collaboratively among all members of the community thanks to the PQ Node Addon. The firefox addon (also known as PQBar) sends your browsing (only the urls) to your PQNode (a process running in our servers, although it can run locally in your computer in the very near future). Collaboration is great, but it has a cost that some – a majority – is not willing to assume. PQ works without relying on explicitly feedback of the users. No votes, no annotation, no tags. Users only need to keep their normal browsing activity and PQ will figure it out what pages are relevant to them. The goal is to leverage collaboration without having to do extra work. PQ let's you search in the part of the Web that member of your community have found relevant. Relevance is automatically assessed by the system so that people can collaborate without overhead. In addition, all the searches and results are kept anonymous so your activity on the Web cannot be tracked down. The quality of your search results depends on how much you and people you know browse and search. The more people you know within PQ the better your results will be. The add-on allows you to import contacts from Facebook, Twitter or email. Providing information of your social network is not mandatory but it is highly advisable.
