ExploRadio Description

ExploRadio is an easy to use Windows freebie developed to help users listen to online radio stations with just a few clicks. Although it’s impressively user-friendly, ExploRadio adopts a rather unusual approach for an application supposed to allow users listen to music online. First of all, the program places an icon in the Windows System Tray to provide instant access to all of its features, thus enabling users to jump to another station or stop playback instantly. ExploRadio claims it comprises a database with thousands of stations, but it doesn’t let you choose one of them. No, instead it shows you multiple music genres, such as progressive house, jazz and metal, and allows you to pick one. Once you start listening to a channel, ExploRadio guarantees that it plays only the best music at a user-defined quality. There’s a basic settings menu too, but nothing to worry about because you can only configure the overall audio quality and a few other parameters concerning the look of the app. You can add a station to book and define your very own channels, but one of the most important drawbacks is that ExploRadio doesn’t provide keyboard shortcuts. It does place an icon in the Tray and lets you fully control the app with ease, but hotkey support could greatly improve the overall experience with the app. All things considered, ExploRadio is undoubtedly a handy product, but it still needs a bunch of improvements. It’s quite easy to use and remains very friendly with hardware resources all the time. Reviewed by Bogdan Popa, last updated on May 9th, 2012
