Delivery Agent Description

Delivery Agent, one of our Developer Products, is a send-only email program designed for use by web site managers, network administrators, customer relations and support personnel, etc. Delivery Agent was made to help easy delivery of frequently used, customer-requested email messages(& MIME attachments) such as newsletters, product upgrade announcements, support notes, etc. Messages can be sent to one or more users by selecting a message from a list and entering the users' addresses. The program will also read a text file containing a list of addresses for bulk delivery. Recipients of bulk delivery messages are shielded from seeing the other recipients in the list. Delivery Agent also has a customizable header feature. This can be used to send 'html mail' (see example setting) or specify other special headers. By default the program checks a POP email account prior to sending message via SMTP - useful for servers that 'validate' the users current IP address prior to allowing mail relays. Deliveries can also be made via your MAPI client. This feature may be useful if you do not have direct access to an smtp server or if your Exchange server requires special permissions before deliveries are permitted outside of your home domain. When 'Use MAPI' is enabled (see example) the program routes messages to your primary MAPI email program instead the smtp server. Depending on the settings for your email program, messages will be placed in your 'Outbox' or sent automatically. Please note that if you send messages via MAPI the 'From:' identity for your email client will be used. This is because your email program makes the actual deliveries instead of Delivery Agent. Please see the Delivery Agent F1 hlp topic "MAPI Mail" for more information. Mail Merge functionality is also available. Mail Merge field name definitions, variable names, and mail merge data are stored in a single file containing the data and email addresses. The variable names can be anything you like (except for the name of the email address field). 'Constants' can also be defined. Attachment file name references can also be specified using mail merge variables and data. Please see the F1 hlp and an example mail merge message that is installed with the program. Program parameters, message settings, and message content are established via GUI dialogs. You can maintain them with a text editor. Message bodies may also be created & maintained with a text editor and you can send an html text message by creating it first with an html editor, saving it to a file, and then including a path to that message file in a settings file. Command line parameters allow the program to be incorporated into automated .bat routines. A message, settings file, & recipient list can be specified from the command line. Delivery Agent exits automatically upon message delivery success.
