Ashampoo ZIP Free offers you a simple and efficient alternative to expensive compression programs, with just the tools you need to create, open, edit, and repair ZIP and other archive files. As soon as you launch the program, it opens a colorful and attractive main interface that reminds you of the Windows 10 tile-based design. In order to lure you to move from this free version to the paid PRO edition, Ashampoo has taken advantage of the program’s main interface to advertise all those other functions you are missing – thus, from the 14 menu entries available, only five of them are active in the free version of the program. Frustrating as this may be, remember that this efficient file compression tool won’t cost you. The two main features are the ones in the Archive section – New Archive and Open Archive. The former will let you create new ZIP, 7-ZIP, CAB, TAR, and LHA archive files, while the latter will let you open and extract the contents of all of these archive types plus RAR, ARJ, MSI, DMG, and ISO, to mention but some of the 30+ formats supported. The Applications section is off-limits for non-PRO users, while the Tools section offers you the possibility of repairing a corrupt or damaged ZIP file, create executable SFX archives, and even write multi-volume ZIP files. All of these features and functions open on clear, attractive, and self-explanatory new windows. Closing some of these windows may close the entire program, forcing you to launch it from your desktop again, so make sure you use the arrow icon pointing left on the top-left corner of these windows to go back to the main menu. Ashampoo ZIP Free offers all the basic functionality you need to open and create the most common archive file types. If you think you require extra functionality, such as file encryption or cloud support, you can easily upgrade to the PRO version.
