ScriptSaver Description

Screensaver module that executes an AppleScript of your choice. ScriptSaver is a screen saver module which executes an AppleScript of your choosing when it activates... you could use it to refresh a folder, log out a user, empty the trash, or relaunch an application. A common use for this is to perform periodic maintenance tasks, run cleanup scripts on kiosk machines, or simply update iChat status when the computer is idle.ScriptSaver is a very useful tool limited only by what you come up with!To install ScriptSaver, drag ScriptSaver.saver to the Screen Savers folder inside the Library folder in your home folder. If there is no Screen Savers folder inside your Library folder, then make a new folder there titled "Screen Savers" (without the quotes) and drag ScriptSaver.saver into it.Configuring ScriptSaverSelect ScriptSaver in the "Desktop & Screen Saver" preference pane in System Preferences and click the "Configure" button to display the ScriptSaver configuration sheet. Follow the directions below to configure ScriptSaver to your liking. To execute an AppleScript when the screensaver activates, click the button labeled "Choose" in the "Activation Script" section of the configuration sheet. Select an AppleScript from the Open dialog that appears. Please note that your AppleScript must have the file extension .scpt or .applescript to be chosen in the open panel. This script will execute when the screensaver is invoked. To execute an AppleScript when the screensaver deactivates, follow the same instructions as given above but use the "Choose" button in the "Deactivation Script" section of the configuration sheet. This AppleScript will execute when the user moves the mouse or presses a key to cancel the screensaver. The "Screen Saver" section allows you to choose a screen saver to run after the activation AppleScript is launched. Screensavers installed in /System/Library/Screen Savers appear at the top of the pop-up menu, followed by screensavers that exist in your ~/Library/Screen Savers folder. One sample AppleScript has been provided in the "Sample Scripts" folder which will log out the current user when ScriptSaver activates. Note that it forces a log out by killing the loginwindow process, which causes all unsaved data to be lost and immediately brings the system back to the Login Window. Although this is particularly abrupt, it is guaranteed to work. Keep in mind that you can execute shell scripts from within AppleScript, as well.
