Ready-Set-Do! Description

Simple, reliable workflow on a Mac Ready-Set-Do! is a complete collection of applescripts that comprehensively integrates all of your files and programs into David Allen's GTD ('Getting Things Done') workflow without locking you into a particular program. If you are familiar with David Allen's book _Getting Things Done_ or his subsequent book _Ready For Anything_ you already know the value of organizing the events of your life according to his suggested workflow. If you are not familiar with David Allen's system I would suggest you obtain these books so that you can have the resources needed to familiarize yourself with this system. How I feel about this way of getting things done is clearly demonstrated by the fact that I designed these scripts. Ready-Set-Do! streamlines your workflow by utilizing the file system as the reliable core from which you live, work, and play. It integrates ALL of your files and programs into David Allen's GTD workflow (including those yet to be invented!). Just choose a script from the new Ready-Set-Do! icon in your dock, and you're off and running. Here are some key features of "Ready-Set-Do!": FIRST IMPRESSIONS: · Look: Cool new desktop icons and nice looking quickstart guides. The interface is basic; but the approach is intentionally designed not to be an application so it can work with all of your applications. · Install: Installs with an installer. It tells you what it is doing along the way. Manual installation instructions are also provided. · Limits: The free trial version has all of the features of the licensed version and can be used for a few months before the limits are reached—plenty of time to evaluate whether the program will work for you. GTD SPECIFIC: · View by Context: Contexts are put in the form of “@ Location: Next Action” in the comments section of Finder windows. You sort them by clicking the comments tab at the top of a Finder window. You can also drill down to a specific context by typing the context in that window’s search box. · Search: Searching is as easy as typing in the search box in any Finder window or Spotlight. · Quick Capture: The Empty Your Head script works great for this. You can also use command-shift-N to capture an idea manually or download the RSD Quicksilver plug-in to capture with Quicksilver. · Calendar: RSD works with any calendar you choose. Just change the link for the alias “Calendar” in your RSD system to have it work with whatever you wish. · Add Links: This is as easy as making a new alias since the RSD setup works with the Finder file system. Command-L is the shortcut. · Portable: RSD allows you to print your entire setup, email it to yourself or another computer, make a zip archive and put it on a thumb drive or iPod. Capturing your ideas on-the-go is also just as easy: Set up the Mail Rule to RSD Desktop, and you can email ideas and attachments directly into your system. Very nice! · Projects: This is the most cumbersome part of RSD, and early on much of it seems unnecessary. It takes some time, though, to see that RSD really gets projects right. No other system talks you—step-by-step—through the process of getting clear on all of your projects. The tagging feature (e.g., Project- Name of your project) helps keep your projects organized and easier to navigate. RSD is also the only GTD setup that displays the vertical dimensions of your projects (See the Sub-Projects Tutorial for more). · Printing: Works great and you can set the margins however you want. Some more customizability with printing would be nice, but it does the job. · Reporting: RSD creates a productivity report that tracks the average number of weekly reviews per month, average tasks completed per week, the record number of items processed out of your inbox, percentage of projects clarified, and more. It even tells you what your “belt level” is: From the White Belt to the highest, 3rd Degree Black Belt, level of productivity. OTHER FEATURES: · Due Date: Add a due date to a project and every project component on that project automatically gets its due dates assigned to ensure the project is completed on time. Just end any next action with “ > DUE ” followed by the due date. Then, as deadlines approach, the items move from Yellow to Orange to Red. Really nice! · Deferred Start: Defer items by dropping them into the Tickler for that month and day or use the Defer Until droplet to do it for you. This is faster than typing a deferred start date. · Completed Date: All completed items get logged and RSD generates a report showing how many items were completed by day and month as well as by project tag. · Staleness: RSD has a “staleness-buster” feature that helps identify stale tasks in your system and gives you options for renegotiating them. · Synchronization: RSD syncs with your iCal Todos so you can port your entire system and keep it synchronized with your handheld device. · (Recurring) Reminders: This is a frequent request but is managed much better by calendar programs where these reminders can be automated and customized. You can choose to integrate RSD with any calendar program on the mac by changing the alias of the “Calendar” icon. · Timing: RSD is set to have the dialog box pop back to the front-center of the screen every 15 minutes. This keeps you focused and moving along. Limitations: · Some features are limited. What's New in This Release: · Processing scripts work better now for users of 10.4-10.5.
