UberWriter Description

UberWriter is a software project that aims to deliver a beautiful, distraction advanced text editor and word processor application heavily inspired by the amazing iA Writer app for the Mac OS X and iOS operating systems. Features at a glance Key features include out-of-the-box spell checking functionality, inline Markdown highlighting, syntax highlighting and math in PDF and HTML, a simple and clutter free graphical user interface that lets you focus on the text or code you are writing, the ability to create beautiful documents in Markdown and export them to HTML, RTF or PDF files. Offers a focus mode Another interesting feature is the focus mode, which works pretty much the same like on the iA Writer software, allowing you to focus on what you write at the moment by highlighting your last sentence. In addition, it includes basic text processing functions like cut, copy, paste, undo and redo, as well as full screen mode. Availability and supported Linux distributions It is very important to mention here that despite the fact that the application’s source code is freely available under the GPL license, UberWriter costs 5 USD (3.8 EUR) on the Ubuntu Software Center. See the project’s blog for more information about why it costs money on the Ubuntu platform. However, Ubuntu users can install the application for free from the PPA repository provided by the developer on Launchpad. Other Linux users will have to grab the source archive and manually configure, compile and install the software on their non-Ubuntu distro. It’s also available on Arch Linux’s AUR repo. Under the hood and requirements At the moment, UberWriter is written entirely in the Python programming language and uses the GTK+ GUI toolkit for its graphical user interface. It requires a handful of Python libraries and it’s supported on both 32-bit and 64-bit hardware platforms.
