GNU ed Description

GNU ed is an 8-bit clean, POSIX-compliant line editor. GNU ed is a line-oriented text editor. GNU ed is used to create, display, modify and otherwise manipulate text files, both interactively and via shell scripts.A restricted version of `ed', `red', can only edit files in the current directory and cannot execute shell commands. `ed' is the `standard' text editor in the sense that it is the original editor for Unix, and thus widely available. What's New in This Release: · The man page is now installed by default. "make install-info" should now work on Debian and Mac OS X. · The license of the manual has been updated to GFDL version 1.3 or later.
