Brutezip Description

Brutezip is a shell script which determines by brute force the best compression format (bzip2, gzip, Z, zip, etc.). Brutezip is a shell script which determines by brute force the best compression format (bzip2, gzip, Z, zip, etc.) and which compression level to use in order to archive a file the smallest possible.BruteZ automatically determines the best compression settings for a single file by brute force method: the given file is compressed with gzip level 6, then 7, 8, 9, followed by bzip2 level 6, 7, 8, 9.Free disk space of up to twice the size of the original file may be required during this process.Intermediate files are deleted along the way so only the smallest file is kept. The original file should always be preserved, but you may wish to make a backup, multi-link the original elsewhere, or (for Mac OS X), lock it in the Finder's Get Info (i.e. HFS+ lock). What's New in This Release:· Finished removing Mac OS X-specific code, should now work with all Linux/Unix.· Minor text reformatting & cleanup.
