ALT Linux Junior is a new distribution in the company's GNU/*/Linux Junior line. ALT Linux Junior is a new distribution in the company's GNU/*/Linux Junior line. The distribution is easy to install and use. It is designed for office and home workstations. Junior 2.2 implements support for a wide spectrum of hardware, manufactured by many well-known producers, including soft modems (winmodems), 3D graphics accelerators, printers, and many other devices. ALT Linux Junior 2.2 has successfully gone through testing on notebooks made by iRu.The distribution includes a number of significant modifications with regard to the previous version:· Support for evening-out of fonts in most graphical environments;· Single interface for system object control.Besides that, the distribution includes the newest versions of Mozilla - a popular network communication package, and of OpenOffice.org office package, as well as a number of other useful and convenient office and Internet applications. The system's multimedia capabilities have been significantly increased by including audio and video file players in it. Junior 2.2 also contains popular KDE 3.1 and GNOME 2.2 working environments.A complementary second disc traditionally includes development tools, such as compilers and interpreters for the most common programming languages and integrated development environments.Requirements:· processor - Pentium-compatible or higher;· RAM - at least 64 Mb (recommended). With 32 Mb of RAM only CD installation will be possible;· hard drive - at least 630 Mb (1 Gb recommended).Junior 2.2 supports today's most advanced motherboards (on VIA KT266, ApolloPro266, VIA KT333, Intel 845 and 850 and AMD 760 chipsets), as well as other commom motherboards. In addition to that, 3D acceleration with the use of SSE optimization and 3DNow! for Matrox series G, ATI Rage, ATI Radeon and Intel 810/815 graphic adapters is supported. The entire range of nVidia video cards (with the use of the commercial driver) is supported as well.ALT Linux Junior 2.2 is distributed in compact DVD packages, and also in specialized OEM versions.
